I read the story you left on Team Harris’s blog. I am glad you told it. I think many RNs especially RN’s who work in community hospitals that only deal with well, term, newborns do not understand the trauma that accompanies a premie birth. Many folks have no clue what kind of roller coaster ride experience it is.

I worked in Special Care Nursery before I became a labor nurse. So I have spent a lot of time with premie parents. And I agree with you that folks feel guilty about all kinds of stuff that is not their fault and they have no control over. Guilt is not a logical emotion.

I consider myself very patient with helping folks breast feed. However, I refuse to try and convince people to breast feed. When women come in, in labor, they have already made up their mind on whether or not they want to try breast feeding. I am not going to try and change their minds.

I live on the East Coast but my sister in-law lives in Mulkelteo Washington. Near Seattle? I know I visited Seattle when I went to visit her. My Brother also was stationed at Port Angeles…So he lived in Squim for a while.
