A tale of two cities

I went off this weekend and had my very first weekend away from Aidan since the day he was born.  (a much more thoughtful post to follow)  I really felt ready to do it and it was a ton of fun!  I went over to see my college girlfriend Lisa.  We met the first week of college during freshman year and have been the best of friends ever since.  We both realized we have now known each other over half our lives!  (yes…if you can do the math you have figured out about what age I am…ugh 37!)  Her ex had her daughter this weekend, so we were going to be childfree together for the first time since her daughter was born almost 7 years ago!

Here is me leaving for the weekend.

Mommy leaving on her girls' weekend

We enjoyed a gorgeous sunny weekend in the 80’s/90’s over in central Washington.  We did a little shopping, a little (ok…a lot) of drinking and a lot of just catching up and getting to just be ourselves and forget for a while that we are moms.

Her boyfriend took us out on his boat.

Here we are enjoying a few pina coladas.

Then we stopped for a nice dinner at a restaurant overlooking the water and had some rum barrels.

I had a wonderfully relaxing time and I am so glad I did it!

Meanwhile…over in Seattle, my boys had their first weekend without mom.  They had a blast of course!  They went to a makeup class at Little Gym, hit golf balls, watched the Blue Angels practice and went to Red Robin.  On Sunday, they went to a Mariner’s game.  Brandon got Aidan his first baseball jersey to commemorate the event.

Aidan was in love with the sights and sounds, but got tired and decided to doze for a little bit out in the summer sun.

After the game, the Mariner’s were doing an annual event where your child can run around the bases and go out into the outfield for a bit.

Here they are out in the outfield near Ichiro’s outfield post.

He loved running around the bases!  Can you tell? He finished off by doing a huge jump onto home plate.

On my way to 2ndI'm pretty good at running the basesHeaded homeHome plate!

A wonderful weekend had by all!

  1. 1 DaddyD

Just to recap Dad’s day with the boy…
Got home early on Friday to get the Mrs out a bit early to beat traffic. Of course the Blue Angels and Seafair traffic snarled Mercer Island and I90 from here to Chicago (slight exaggeration).
Boy and I immediately went swimming. Swimming means running from pool to hot tub and back several hundred times. Then off to Red Robin. The boy drops his crayon on the ground – goes to grab it and comes up eating a french fry. We have yet to receive our dinner…. EEWWWWWW.
Aidan got to go to sleep in daddy’s bed. More for me than for him. I miss the Mrs.
Saturday.. Little Gym..Lots of workout for both of us running around. Unfortunately, there is no class for the 440-444 month age group, so I will have to live vicariously through him.
Then.. to McDonalds for lunch. Special treat with dad. After lunch, packed him into the stroller and took him to the Lid park. Aidan played like a mad man for over an hour during his naptime. It is amazing to watch this former tadpole climb and run like any other kid. I am trying like crazy not to helicopter around him. Then… off to I90 where the WSP shut down the highway for the Blue Angels show. Watched the planes ‘fly upside down and really loud’. Naptime.. then off to his surrogate gramma’s house where Aidan’s best friend Bella lives (a dog). Sleep in dad’s bed cuz I still miss the Mrs.
Sunday, breakfast with dad. Lunch on the water in seattle at Anthony’s next to a cruise ship.. a HUGE pirate ship according to the boy. Then off to teh Mariner’s game. Lori was worried about nap time… well.. as the pics indocate… he did fine. from the bottom of the first inning to the 7th inning stretch… he was out.
Then running around the bases with dad.
Now… this is the sapy interlude….
I grew up in… well.. less than ideal circumstances to say the least. Aidan’s start has been well-documented on this blog. So in the course of a little more than a year.. Aidan has tackled dad on the 50 yard line of Quest Field (seahawks stadium) and we ran the bases at Safeco field. Unimaginable as I grew up. Unthinkable given his start. Yet here we were, two ‘kids’ running around the bases. One of Aidan’s greatest gifts to me will be his ability to bring out the little boy in a man that has aged significantly over the last three years. He will be a much older boy before he can even grasp how much I love him for this.

Home to swim for an hour, dinner, read… and mom gets home! What a fantastic weekend.

Now… dad has to try to get his weekend of fun sometime too :-)

  2. 2 kellars mommy

Wow what fun for both of you! A girls weekend away, ahhhh sounds so uhmmm refreshing!! Glad you enjoyed it, a pina colada sounds ohhh so yummy..I am so impressed that Aidan sat through the game, yea yea he slept some to but hey I am still very impressed. I won’t even begin to tell you how a day at the ball park w/out a stroller would end up for me, wow I’m breaking a sweat thinking about it..haha…Cute pictures, he’s such a big boy!!!!

  3. 3 Ichiro Suzuki Autographed Jersey Owner

I am a Mariners fan from Argentina. Very nice Mariners information.
I am a big fan of Ichiro Suzuki and am disappointed that JJ Putz was traded.
I hope to be in Seattle for a game this summer.
